I’ve worked in the comms field for more than a decade, but my mum thinks I work in the IT department. It doesn’t matter how many times I say I work with communications, it will always be something fuzzy to mum I guess. She's not alone. Many people think the communications department, and especially internal comms, is mumbo-jumbo. Explaining what an internal communicator does isn't easy since we're doing so many things.
